Alecia Abrams

Alecia earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Western Kentucky University in 2020 and went on to complete her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at WKU in 2024. She is a Licensed Psychological Associate in the state of Kentucky.

Alecia’s interest in clinical work began in children’s crisis services, where she worked at the LifeSkills Children’s Crisis Stabilization Unit (CCSU) in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She later joined the LifeSkills Center for Child Welfare Education and Research (LCCWEAR) at WKU, contributing to research on Kentucky’s child welfare system that has supported statewide advocacy efforts. Alecia completed her clinical internship at The Cognitive Refinery and the Psychological Training Clinic at WKU, where she provided therapy services to adolescents and adults and conducted comprehensive psychological assessments.

Alecia utilizes an eclectic, person-centered approach to therapy, tailoring interventions to meet the unique needs of each client and family. She incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and play therapy techniques in her work with children, adolescents, and adults. Her clinical interests include treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, behavioral concerns, and adjustment to major life transitions.

Outside of her professional work, Alecia enjoys gardening, reading, sewing, and spending time with her husky. She also values staying active through yoga, Pilates, and weight training, and enjoys connecting with friends through games and other shared activities. Alecia is a member of the Kentucky Psychological Association (KPA), the Association for Play Therapy (APT), and the Kentucky Association for Play Therapy (KAPT).
