
Candace Duncan
BS, Professional Counselor Intern
Candace Duncan is a Professional Counselor Intern providing services in the Lake Cumberland region.
Candace attended Eastern Kentucky University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2022. She is continuing her education at the University of the Cumberlands, where she will obtain her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in August of 2025. Candace began her internship with Phoenix Preferred Care in May of 2024. She is currently observing and practicing under supervision.
Candace is most interested in utilizing the Child-centered play approach. Through structured play, sensory activities, and storytelling, Candace helps children express emotions, enhance social interactions, and develop important coping skills. This child-centered approach encourages self-expression and emotional regulation in a safe and supportive environment.
Candace is passionate about working with children and families, helping them build essential skills for emotional resilience and positive growth. With a strong foundation in child development and a dedication to learning, Candace is committed to using AutPlay Therapy to create meaningful and lasting change for the children she works with under the guidance of a supervisor.
Candace is also interested in utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy with adults who have ADHD/ADD, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, and grief. She works with adults to develop strategies to replace distorted or unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors through cognitive restructuring, problem-solving, and mindfulness skills.
Outside of the internship, Candace enjoys watching movies, playing video games, reading books, and spending time with her family. When the weather is nice, she enjoys traveling to Renaissance Fairs, going hiking with her Coy-Wolf (Makoyiwa) and family, and visiting historical sites.
Candace is currently a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association for Play Therapy (APT), and the Kentucky Association for Play Therapy (KYAPT).
